What is GDPR?

The result is the mutually agreed European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on 25^th May 2018. It will change how businesses and public-sector organisations can handle the information of their customers.

GDPR affects anybody or anything engaged in an economic activity and that processes personal data and even organisations such as partnerships, charities, or clubs. It doesn’t matter if this entity is legally recognised or not.  It’s designed to protect your rights. It’s going to ensure companies do more to protect our personal data and make them accountable as well as going to make it easier for us to know what Personal Data a company holds about us and - if we want - have it deleted.

What sort of data will fall under the General Data Protections Regulation?

• Name
• Photo
• Email address
• Social media posts
• Personal medical information
• IP addresses
• Bank details

Businesses that fail to comply with GDPR will be subject to fines starting in May of 2018. This can mean different things for businesses depending on the level of breech.
